How Then Shall We Pray?

Do you ever wonder what you should pray for, or more specifically, how to pray for something? This is hitting me today. Yesterday, we learned that the septic tank in our rented house in Fresno had failed, and that the resulting repairs will take $3500. Ok......God, so don't you know we are becoming missionaries and unexpected expenses like this are not welcomed at this time? That we need any savings we have for more real emergencies?

So then, how do we pray about this? My devotions this morning were on this very topic (entitled "Pray About That")! Here was the verse that came with this discussion:

“Pray that the LORD your God will tell us where we should go and what we should do.” Jeremiah 42:3

Ok, so how then shall we pray? Should we pray that, miraculously, the septic tank is fixed and the cost does not need to be incurred? Should we pray that an anonymous donor comes through and pays the cost? Should we pray that our heart's would accept this event and seek to grow in our trust that God will provide in future emergencies as needed? Should we just accept that this is life in this world, and so then, why pray about it?

I am serious in this question - we would welcome your responses! Engage and journey with us in this process! Looking forward to your comments....
