Hosted by our friends, the Friesens, we had a great Peruvian Dessert with them and some friends and family. It was great to spend some quality time with old friends, and once again be able to share our hearts for Peru and some pictures of the wonderful people there. The kids got to go swimming, and Saturday morning, we spent an hour or so with Melissa's Grandma in Bakersfield, one of our biggest encouragers in this journey.
We then headed home to Fresno, passing by some wild sunflowers along the way. Sunflowers are native to Peru, and have become a normal backdrop in many of our events. It is fun to see these along the roadway throughout California, reminding us of our long-term goal as we run from place to place while fundraising.
The weekend finished up with a visit to Madera Avenue Bible Church, and I got to preach on Exodus 3, "Is Your Coffee Cup Calling Your Name?". They had just finished a week of VBS, so I was surrounded by a unique backdrop of panda bears and goldfish! Melissa and I were able to share in Sunday School in more detail about Peru and the churches there, and enjoyed some great feedback from people.
Our final visit was at the home of our friends, the Kyllos. We spent the entire afternoon and into the evening with them, talking, swimming, and picking wild blackberries. It was a wonderful way to end the busy weekend, winding down from the many events we were part of.
