Differences

So, traveling over the US/Canada border seems like it should look pretty much the same on both sides. I am learning that this is very much not so. Unlike the world that we have come from, here in Canada, Thanksgiving is ON OCTOBER 11! Yes! I did not know that! I admit it! Ok, better yet, did you know that??
The nice thing is that the traditions here seem to pretty much follow what we are used to in those wonderful Fresno and Bakersfield events (at least that is what I assume based on the grocery store ads that showed up in our mailbox today) - turkey, ham, yams, green-bean casserole, pumpkin pie, buns. Not sure where the brussel sprouts came in - is that a US thing too and my mom just saved me from that injustice all these years?
One new tradition we are adding into our family here is apple picking. Last weekend we hit Willow View Farms. Different varieties and a lot to choose from! Oh, and pumpkins the size of a tricycle!

We will be enjoying several Thanksgiving celebrations this weekend, although it will not feel like normal, since it will not be with the family and friends we have celebrated with for so many years. We miss you all, and continue to tell each other that a lot these days. The decision to move into missions is right - we believe that. But it has sacrifices, and for now, this is a powerful one to consider.

Take care friends.

PS - if you want, check out some pictures of our family here in Abbotsford taken by our friend Sharalee. Pretty cool.
