I think I have Snail Syndrome. Guessing there is not really an official definition of this. Probably not a medically-defined term. But I think I have it.
Guess I should explain what I mean. After our long journey to get to this point in our missions journey, Melissa and I are looking at only a few weeks left before we mobilize (move) to the country of Peru. I am a bit terrified...ok, I am a lot terrified. I am moving to a foreign country with my wife and three kids, to join a team of missionaries in a place I have never lived before, work with a people that I do not really know.
If I had a shell, I would be pulling my head back inside and hiding I think. This is unusual for me. I don't often run and hide from stuff. Of all people, I am a missionary kid, born in Africa, lived in Panama, Costa Rica, Guatemala, adopted a kid from Thailand, and speak pretty good Spanish. I should be ready for this!
Guessing many feel this way as they consider leaving a land that they know, going somewhere with possible challenges. The early settlers, immigrants to many different lands, my fore-fathers coming from Russia, so many. This is not a new thing in this world of ours. But for some reason, it still seems awfully new to me.
And many of you will probably note this over the coming weeks. If you are my family or my friends, I am truly thankful for you in our lives, but I apologize now that I may not be myself for the next while. Please consider anything I may say or do in light of our current reality. I may speak out of the side of my head on occasion. I may speak without thinking of what I am saying. It is probably coming out of my Snail Syndrome that I think I have....
If you think of us this month, pray that God will give us His GREAT and ETERNAL PEACE! We will need it.
Lowell
